Four factors were identified by us to locate potential sites for siting of the 5th incineration plant in Singapore. Due to the incineration plant’s stack height of 150 metres, it is important to ensure that the incineration plant does not fall into areas of height restriction constrained by air traffic flow. The potential sites of the incineration plant are also in accordance with Singapore’s land use, such that they fall within areas that are classified as 'Infrastructure'. As the government has plans to co-locate incineration plant with desalination plants, steps were also taken to ensure that the incineration plant is within a certain distance from the coast. This was done by calculating the maximum distance current incineration plants are away from the coast so that the distance obtained acted as a guide for us to follow. Lastly, buffer distance from residence was also considered to ensure minimum disturbance to the population. This buffer distance was obtained by finding out what is the shortest distance the current incineration plants are away from residential buildings.
